Conspira-bsession

I have friends on both sides of the political fulcrum so while attempting to ask this in an a-political way, I really want to know, why do we love conspiracy theories? What is it inside of some people that makes them want to believe that they are being duped by the government? I watched a video on google yesterday called "9/11 Cover Up" and began asking myself these questions. I mean, the video is a piece of trash for sure. If I didn't have a brain in my head I would believe what the kid narrating was saying because it was indeed captivating. Most media these days has that power. So I guess that I am saying that there is a conspiracy among those in the media to convince me that everything is a conspiracy, especially September 11th. This kid's video tells me that passenger planes didn't hit the buildings, but government missiles. That means that while I have spent the last 2 years studying at Wheaton College's new "Todd M. Beamer Center" (he was a Wheaton alumnus), Todd Beamer never really existed. Karl Rove, Donald Rumsfeld, and George Bush just made him up as part of their plan to mass murder their citizens.

Really, help me out. Why do we want to believe that our government is out to abuse us, good, tax-paying citizens? I'm being sarcastic because I don't believe that, especially having lived in other countries, but so many people do believe it. In the Former Yugoslavia, everybody lives under some conspiracy theory, but many of theirs are substantiated. They have all lived under communism, which we all know puts everybody on an equal plane while filling the Swiss Bank accounts of their crooked thug leaders. It is known fact that when Yugoslavia began to unravel, Milosevic (Serb) and Tudjman (Croat) actually got together in a cabin in the woods, pulled out a map of Bosnia, and began to carve out their plunder. That's all true, so people have a reason to distrust. But come on, in America? Why are we so infatuated with 9/11 conspiracies?

Sim and the Chicks

Simeon's learning about girls. At church this morning there were these 4 little girls sitting in a circle in the foyer (don't you love that word? How about narthex?) having a little tea party. Sim walks up, steps into their cirlce, and just sits down on one of the girls' laps. It was "pick up chicks by getting picked up by chicks." We got a good laugh. Also, he has been noticing lately that his mommy's belly has been growing. He likes to imitate her now:
