David Bowie and Christmas in LA

"I, I wish you could swim, like the dolphins, like dolphins can swim..." (from Heroes)
I'm in So. California right now. It's 70 degrees and nice. Some of you out there might be saying, "ooh, lucky." Most people back in Wheaton said that before I left. Though I am tempted, I will refrain from writing my sentiments about this place here. However, I thought I would write about one thing that I love about California. Maybe the only thing. The beach. I'm telling you, there is nothing more spiritually exhilirating for me than to wake up before sunrise and go to the beach with my Bible and a surfboard. The low-pitch, rumbling noise of that massive body of water, the smell, the birds, it all just ushers me into a conversation with God. Yesterday morning I was at Sunset Beach and after reading different parts of the Sermon on the Mount, I jumped up and ran out toward the waves with my longboard underarm. I took a couple good waves in and was thrilled that I got up the first time. I then paddled out and stradled my board to let my aching arms recover. Everything was dead for a few minutes and then out of nowhere, 10-15 feet away from me, 5 dolphins surface and just start playing all around me. They surfed some waves in and came right back out to me to continue playing! I sat and watched, just praising the Lord for his creation. Have you ever seen dolphins play in the waves so close you can touch them? WOW!! It was a gift from God I tell you.
