Very cool

This picture didn't come out very good at all, but that's Jennie Finch holding our son. If you don't know who she is, she's arguably the best softball player to ever play the game. She helped USA bring home the gold in Athens and is just amazing to watch. In its first attempted women's professional fastpitch season, check out her stats:
http://chicagobandits.com/stats/?stats=player&player_id=461I mean 14 w, 0 losses!? 0.88 era? It was pretty cool how we got this picture. Janet actually grew up with Jennie and her brothers in Southern California. So after a game, while she was getting mobbed by ESPN reporters and fans, I snagged one of her teammates and asked her to tell Jennie that a friend that she grew up with was here to see her. Jennie immediately came over to where we were and in a whole sea of people, we had all of her attention for close to 10 minutes. It was very cool.
60 Years!
I've had so much to write about this summer: trips to Kosovo, Oregon, stuff like that. As much as I like my new style of blogging (non-controversial posts), it is true that hot topics attract the comments. Oh well. I'm terrible at commenting on other blogs, but it doesn't mean I don't read them all. So keep on bloggers! It's such a great way to catch up with you without actually having to talk on the phone.
To get to the point of this post, I wanted to honor Bob & Pat Mezger, my grandparents who celebrated 60 years of marriage this month. Their life stories are full and rich; very typical of those whom I believe were very appropriately named "The Greatest Generation" of Americans who ever lived. So here's to a good ole Jersey kid and a beautiful Chicago girl: Your commitment to each other is truly something to be honored and respected. I love you both!

Eyes wide open, naked as we came...
great article:
Chris, here is the USA Today article that I couldn't find called "Srebrenica: Time to Own Up." What a great article:

CHEATERS.

My grandkids will look at the record books and almanacs and say, "ooh, look at all of those awesome players" but as long as I am alive, you will always be cheaters.
